Saigon City and Cu Chi Tunnels Full Day Tour

The city that reinvented itself. The tunnels that never forgot.

Trip duration: 9 hours

Saigon to Cu Chi: One Full Day of History

Trip duration: 9 hours

Ho Chi Minh City has two histories running at once: the leafy colonial boulevards and the 20th-century war sites that give the city its weight. This full day covers both.

The morning moves through the city: Independence Palace, where the war ended in April 1975; the War Remnants Museum, the most visited museum in Vietnam; and the Saigon Central Post Office, a Gustave Eiffel-designed building from 1891 still in daily use. After lunch you head northwest to Cu Chi, where 250 kilometres of hand-dug tunnels run beneath the jungle floor.

Hotel pick-up, guide, transport, lunch, all entrance fees: all in.

What you'll experience

🏛️

Independence Palace

The seat of the South Vietnamese government, left exactly as it was on the day the war ended in April 1975.

🖼️

War Remnants Museum

Vietnam's most visited museum: photographs, military hardware, and documentation of the American War from the Vietnamese side.

📮

Saigon Central Post Office

A Gustave Eiffel-designed building from 1891, still in daily use — one of the finest colonial structures in the city.

🕳️

Cu Chi tunnel network

250 km of hand-dug wartime passageways, used as command posts, field hospitals, and living quarters during the Vietnam War.

🚪

Hidden trapdoors

Camouflaged entry hatches flush with the jungle floor, invisible from above even when you know they're there.

🔦

Tunnel crawl

Crawl through an enlarged section of the original tunnel: low, narrow, and dark for about 20 metres. Optional.

🍜

Local restaurant lunch

A Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant between the city tour and the drive out to Cu Chi.

What to expect

  1. Hotel pick-up in Ho Chi Minh City

Your guide and driver collect you from your hotel. The day starts in the city before heading out to the tunnels in the afternoon.

  2. Independence Palace: unchanged since the war ended in April 1975

Walk through the halls and war rooms of the former South Vietnamese presidential palace, preserved in the state it was in when the war ended. Your guide puts the building in the context of the city around it.

  3. War Remnants Museum: the American War from the Vietnamese side

Vietnam's most visited museum, and one of the most affecting. Photographs, aircraft, weaponry, and documentation — the war as it was experienced here, not reported elsewhere.

  4. Saigon Central Post Office and Notre-Dame Cathedral

The 1891 Eiffel-designed post office is still in operation: high vaulted ceiling, vintage maps on the walls, and people sending letters. The cathedral stands directly across the square.

  5. Lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant

A sit-down Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant before the drive northwest to Cu Chi.

  6. Cu Chi Tunnels: trapdoors, bomb craters, and the tunnel crawl

A short historical film explains the network before your guide takes you onto the surface: camouflaged trapdoors, B-52 craters, ventilation shafts disguised as termite mounds. The crawl through an enlarged tunnel section is optional.

  7. Return to Ho Chi Minh City, back by early evening

The drive back reaches your hotel in time for dinner, traffic depending.

“
Minh grew up south of Saigon and has spent years guiding both the city and the delta region. He knows which room in Independence Palace most people walk past, which photographs in the War Remnants Museum are worth spending time with, and how to time the Cu Chi arrival to avoid the midday crowds. His English is clear and his pace gives you room to think.
”
