Cu Chi Tunnels by Luxury Speedboat: the River Approach from Saigon

Trip duration: 6 hours

Most visitors reach Cu Chi by coach — 90 minutes through Ho Chi Minh City traffic, arriving at the site already a little worn out. This tour takes the Saigon River instead. You board a luxury speedboat at Saigon Waterbus Station and travel northwest along the same waterway that shaped the city's history: mangroves, riverside communities, and working river life that almost no tourist ever sees from a minibus. Breakfast is served on the water. The journey takes about 75 minutes and arrives at Cu Chi with the morning still fresh.

At the site: a documentary on the network's construction, a jungle walk past camouflaged trapdoors and B-52 craters, demonstrations of the wartime trap systems, and the tunnel crawl itself — low, narrow, and dark for about 20 metres. After the tunnels, green tea and tapioca (the food that sustained the communities living underground), followed by a 7-course traditional Vietnamese lunch. The speedboat returns to Saigon by 14:00.

We include this tour for guests who want their Cu Chi visit to feel like an occasion. The river approach alone is worth it.
