Hai Van Pass Easy Rider: A Private Full Day Motorbike Tour from Hoi An or Da Nang

Trip duration: 8 hours

There are drives in Vietnam that travellers talk about for years. Hai Van Pass is one of them.

Stretching across a mountain spine that separates the old imperial heartland from the central coast, the pass offers twenty kilometres of curves, cliff edges, and sea views that no bus window or car seat can do justice. We do it the right way: on the back of a motorbike, with an experienced local rider who knows these roads and the stories behind every stop along the way.

Your day begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Hoi An or Da Nang and takes you north through Marble Mountain and across the Dragon Bridge before the road begins to climb. From the summit of Hai Van Pass, on a clear day, you can see both the Da Nang coastline to the south and Lang Co Beach curving away to the north. The descent brings you down to Lap An Lagoon, through Lang Co, and on to Suoi Mo Waterfall before the return journey skirts the edge of Tam Giang Lagoon — the longest coastal lagoon in Southeast Asia — and crosses the historic Thanh Toan Bridge.

This is a private tour. Your guide, your pace, your stops. We end the day wherever you need to be.

“
I've ridden this road more times than I can count, and it still gets me every time the sea opens up at the top of the pass. Because we go private, I can read the light and the weather and time our stops so you get Lap An Lagoon when it's mirror-still and Lang Co with the sun on the sand. Tell me what you love — coffee stops, photos, a swim at the waterfall — and I'll build the day around it. — Minh
”

Frequently asked questions about this trip

Yes. Your rider meets you in the lobby of any hotel in central Hoi An or Da Nang for a morning departure. Just tell us where you're staying when you book and we'll confirm the pick-up time.
Both options are included at the same price. Most guests ride pillion behind their experienced local rider and simply enjoy the views and photos. If you hold a valid licence and the correct International Driving Permit (the 1968 version) and are confident on mountain roads, you can self-ride alongside your guide instead.
Yes — it's just you (and your travelling companions, up to four guests) and your rider. There's no fixed schedule, no other groups, and no rush. You set the pace and we can linger longer at the stops you love and skip anything you don't.
Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes, and bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a light jacket — it can be cooler and windier at the summit than at sea level. A swimsuit is worth packing if you fancy a dip at Suoi Mo Waterfall or Lang Co Beach. We provide the helmet and a waterproof bag for your belongings.
The pass is at its best on clear days, but light rain rarely stops a ride — your rider carries ponchos and adjusts the route to make the most of the conditions. If heavy weather makes the roads genuinely unsafe, we'll reschedule with you for another day or arrange a refund.
Absolutely. We end the day wherever you need to be — your hotel, a restaurant, the train station, or anywhere else in central Hoi An or Da Nang. Just let your rider know your plans.
